BUILD YOUR OWN CANOE

Build Your Own Canoe course is a two session course: In the first session, learn the basics of canoe building: Design, materials, construction methods, and how these factors affect the use of each canoe. Upon completion of this first session, the student will have the knowledge necessary to make an informed decision as to which canoe to purchase or which canoe the student would like to build in the second session, Canoe Building 101.

INTRODUCTION TO CANOE BUILDING (5 Hrs.)

Thinking about purchasing a new canoe? With the wide array of manufacturers, designs, new materials, and construction methods, it can become a difficult task to choose the right canoe. INTRODUCTION TO CANOE BUILDING, will cover these many canoe designs and how each design affects the canoe’s stability , seaworthiness, and performance. It will also cover the different construction methods and materials from wood and canvas to the modern Kevlar and Royalex. In the final segment of the class, students will have the opportunity to paddle many different canoes to have a hands on feeling of the paddling characteristics of each model.

CANOE BUILDING 101

Canoe Building 101 is a hands on course in which you build your own canoe under the guidance of master canoe builder Ray Brierly. Course length and cost will vary depending on the canoe the student wishes to build. Course length can vary from one day to two weeks and costs from $419.00 to $2,500.00 for a wood and canvas canoe. Upon completion, the student will own a canoe he or she will be proud of.

Cost: Varies depending on the canoe built.

Prerequisite: Introduction to canoe building.
